Share the Love of Your Dog with Older People in Our Community

Do you have a friendly, well-behaved dog and a passion for bringing joy to others? We are looking for caring volunteers to visit residents in our Residential Aged Care Home in Rooty Hill with their pet dogs.

For many older people, spending time with animals brings comfort, companionship, happy memories, and meaningful connection. As a Pet Companion Visitor, you and your dog will spend time with residents through casual visits, gentle interactions, and social engagement that can brighten someone's day.

What You'll Do

  • Visit residents in our aged care home with your dog
  • Offer companionship and social connection
  • Support residents to safely interact with your pet
  • Help create positive and enjoyable experiences for older people
  • Share the unique comfort and happiness that animals can bring

About Your Dog

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents, volunteer dogs must:

  • Have a calm, friendly, and suitable temperament for an aged care environment
  • Be comfortable interacting with a variety of people
  • Be fully vaccinated and in good health
  • Be well-groomed and clean for visits
  • Respond reliably to basic commands and remain under the owner's control at all times

About You

We're looking for volunteers who are:

  • Friendly, reliable, and compassionate
  • Confident handling their dog in a social setting
  • Respectful of older people's needs and preferences
  • Able to commit to regular visits

Why Volunteer?

By sharing your dog with our residents, you'll help reduce loneliness, spark conversations, evoke cherished memories, and create moments of genuine joy. The bond between people and animals is powerful, and your visits can make a meaningful difference in someone's day.

Interested in becoming a Pet Companion Visitor? We'd love to hear from you.
