The Sydney Science Trail is a collaborative program brought to you by the Australian Museum and Botanic Gardens of Sydney. Join us for a week of celebrating science with schools and the community.

Come and join our friendly team of shop volunteers at Norah Head Lighthouse Reserve. We sell souvenirs, drinks, ice creams and share local knowledge to our guests. The shop is currently open 7 days per week from 10am to 2pm.

Volunteer to conduct tours of the magnificent lighthouse tower built in 1903.
Proved the link between the past and present, sharing information and the rich history with visitors to the Reserve while enjoying the magnificent views. Training is provided.

• Conduct guided tours of Naval history sites in Sydney
• Work with a team of volunteers from diverse backgrounds
• Training provided; commitment of at least 6 hours weekly

• Deliver engaging naval history presentations on MV BENNELONG
• Utilize PowerPoint, public speaking skills; no prior naval experience needed
• Training provided, expand presentation repertoire, social events participation

• Perform day-to-day gardening tasks in heritage garden
• Training provided on conservation policies and safe work procedures
• Contribute to well-maintained gardens for visitor enjoyment and events

• Assist chef in meal preparation and kitchen clean-up
• Maintain stock, clean dining areas, and support volunteers
• Opportunity to learn new skills and work with a team

• Maintain cleanliness of ship areas and escort visitors
• Assist in preserving historic ship as a museum and training ship
• Report to officer in charge and head shipkeeper daily

• Restore and maintain freshwater, waste, and blackwater pipework
• Open to skilled non-professionals or plumbers
• Commitment to historic ship preservation and community involvement

• Maintain cleanliness of machine shop and machinery
• Assist tradespeople and report issues to ERA
• Background in engineering work beneficial but not required

• Restore furniture, doors, cabin fittings, and decks on ships
• Experience and interest in woodwork strongly desired
• Work under department head, overseen by ship committees

• Welcome visitors, promote Museum, provide helpful responses
• Assist with retail sales, maintain visitor safety and security
• Commit to at least two three-hour shifts per month

• Clean and sand surfaces before mixing and applying paint
• Ability to paint required; training provided onboard
• Volunteer role with benefits of learning new skills

• Assist cleaning crew with wiping walls, vacuuming carpets and mopping
• Help maintain cabin cleanliness and polish windows throughout the vessel
• Support housekeeping operations to keep all areas presentable for guests

• Service and overhaul ship's machinery including 7 diesel engines
• Work on compressed air, hydraulic, refrigeration, and air con systems
• Collaborate with volunteers to restore historic lighthouse tender
